And that's only the start. You can add a touch of style to your vinyl patio door hinges, external doors, and other plastic doors, with glass panels. These come in a wide range of finishes. You can add a touch of colour to external doors or outside doors with stained glass panels. If you prefer a more understated look, you can use plain bevelled glass panels with a subtle design.

Your PVC doors can let in as much or as little light as you wish. You may prefer just a small panel which allows you to see who's at the door as an alternative to a peephole. Another option is to have several glass panels which let light into a dark hallway area. As an alternative to including these in the front entry doors, consider putting frosted glass panels at either side of the UPVC doors. Even with frosting, there are different effects you can have, depending on the level of opacity required. If privacy is not a consideration when you remodel, external doors can have almost clear glass panes. However, there are different levels of frosting, and some outside doors allow only a little light to pass through while obscuring the vision of any unexpected callers.

If you plan to install plastic doors, then security may also be a concern. The good news is that the locks on UPVC exterior doors are among the most secure available. Not only can you get secure Yale locks, but the standard locking mechanism favours security, with a 'twist and turn' locking process that keeps the door tightly shut and weathertight. With security, insulation, weather resistance and a computer desk manufacturer wide range of finishes, you can't beat UPVC exterior doors.

�dont have the idea why my Garage Door stops before fully open?

So I am looking for some help. My Sears garage door just started acting up. When either remote or master is activated, the garage starts to go up but stops after a short distance. It will not fully open unless I actually help it by lifting the garage manually. I have tried with the up/down adjustments with temporary success. It goes down with no problem, but never up. Help, please !

it sounds like you have a broken spring. Look above the door on the shaft at the spring(s). If a spring is broke there will be probably one inch or so gap in a spring. If it is broke you need to have a pro replace it. If springs are ok with door on floor disconnect door from openr try lifting it. You should be able to lift it easily. At each break between panels, when it is in the curved part of track or radius, it should stay. If it wants to fall spring broke or way to weak. If flys up springs are to jot. If that works ok you need to make sure nothing is binding door. If all checks out adjust the blue screws on back or right hand side of opener (if looking at door from inside). Just tweak them a little at a time.

It sounds like a broken spring though.

What is the safest easiest way to replace the garage door spring. The kind that is above the garage door. Its a .250 (I think) spring.

I told my husband call Lowes and they said they aren�t allowed to sell the torsion springs.

They do sell extension springs but not torsion springs.

Because torsion springs are very dangerous to install. You have to know what you are doing. If you�ve never done it before, hire a professional. I�ve done it but I have had a lot of experience in maintenance and even then I was very nervous, but careful. If you lose you grip while tightening them you could get hurt badly. There has to be just enough tension to assist in opening the door and keeping it up without falling from it�s own weight.

Now if you see something about Security+ it means you garage has rolling code. If that is true, you will need to buy one that has the same freq. If it is, there will be a button up on the door motor, mine is orange. You will need to press that button on the motor and the button on the remote to tell the garage door to accept it. Now you said it was older, so it may not have that. If there is a series of dip switches on the motor you will need to set the same dipswitchs on the remote. Again you will need to buy the right one for the door opener.

How to install a entry door for workshop?

I�m building a 16�20 workshop in the back yard. There will be a 36″ steel entry door along the front wall near the left front of the addition. For security purposes, is it better to have the door open towards the inside or have it open out? I was thinking of having it open towards the inside so when fully open it would be parallel with the left side of the building. But would that make it easier for someone to kick it in? Does that not matter? I realize that if someone wants to break in they will probably find a way in. So should I just install it the way that works best with the inside shop layout? Please help I�m OCD� ing.

All external doors should open to the inside for security purposes. If not then the hinges will be on the outside, making it vulnerable.

If security is a concern, add an extra king stud to each side, and use long screws through the hinges. Get a good deadbolt.

My wood door swollen and wont close!

Last week�my son punched our wooden door very hard.

Juse two days ago, the door has become tighter and tighter.

We tried to shav off the wood, and it got better for a few days.�

However, eventually, it got tighter again! There is nothing wrong with the hinges. The door just seems to be getting too big for its frame. Shaving helps only temporarily. Could this have something to do with the way my son punched it last month (in one of his angry moods)? Or could it be, as he now claims, due to the weather?

When your garage door opens and closes there are two switches that it trips (one for when it opens and one for when it closes). These will normally be by the belt drive casing or near the railing at the sides. These can be adjusted forwards or backwards to control how far the door opens and how far it closes. What is probably causing your problem is that the switch that gets tripped when your garage door closes is too far forward allowing it to hit the ground before it trips the switch to stop the garage door. Garage doors have a pressure sensitive mechanism on them for safety reasons. If the door hits an object when it is closing it will stop and raise back up. This is so it won�t crush a kid or a person if they happed to be under the garage door when it closes. Since your switch to stop the garage door is too far forward or possibly broken your garage door sensors think the door has hit an obstruction when it hits the ground and therefore it raises. If adjusting the trigger switch doesn�t work, you might try adjusting the pressure it takes to send the garage door back up. It could possibly be too sensitive. That adjustment should be located on the garage door motor. Only adjust that AFTER you have already tried moving the trigger to stop the garage door when it closes.

Take Measurements

We began by taking the measurements of the door opening. We started by measuring the door opening width and height.

We then measured for the headroom, which is the distance between the top of the door opening and the ceiling. You should have about 10 to 12 inches of headroom available depending on the spring system you�re installing.

Finally, we measured for the backroom. You need at least the door height plus 18 inches for proper installation.

Prepare Door Sections

Our first step in preparing the door sections was to temporarily attach the stops to both sides of our opening.

Laying the first section over covered sawhorses, we attached the hardware using the supplied sheet metal screws.

Next, we attached the #1 hinge to the pre-punched holes along the top edge of the section.

We attached a lift handle on both sides of the door section using the supplied fasteners.

Next, we carefully lifted and set the bottom section in the opening so that it was centered from side to side against the stop molding.

We used a 4′ level to be sure that our door section was level.

To temporarily hold the section in place, we drove a16d nail into the frame and bent it over the section.

Install Door Sections

We placed the second panel on top of the first and drove nails into the side jambs to hold it in place; then we installed the third section. Be sure to check the numbers on the hinges and install them in the proper order.

When we got to the last panel, we placed it over the sawhorses and attached the top roller bracket.

We then placed the last door panel on top of the others, drove in a nail for temporary support, and attached the hinges from the top of the previous section to the bottom of the last section (figure A).

Finally, we placed a roller in the top and bottom brackets and in the outer tubes in each of the hinges at the ends of each section.

Install Torsion Springs

We began assembling the torsion tube by pushing the tube sections firmly together in the coupler, drilling pilot holes and securing them with screws.

We prepared the torsion spring assembly by sliding the torsion spring, winding unit and cable drums onto the shaft.

We carefully placed the spring assembly and tube in each bracket above the door (figure E) and then tightened the screws in the cone to the torsion tube before securing the spring to the bracket.

We attached the cables starting with the left side. We pulled the cable up from the bottom bracket and tightened the setscrew on the drum.

Next, we inserted our drill into the winding unit and wound the appropriate number of turns to set the tension for the spring.

Finally, we installed the tube retainers on either side of the door.

Final Touches

We secured the stop molding around the perimeter of both garage openings using 3d galvanized finishing nails. The stop molding will help seal the garage from the elements.

To attach the interior slide bolt, we secured it with screws on the end style of the door and then tested its operation. We repeated the same procedure for the slide bolt lock on the other garage door.

To finish this project we applied a coat of primer to the raw wood trim around our opening. After it had completely dried we applied a finish coat of paint.

My�house�buyer inspector checked my house garage door opener, and said that my garage door opener does not auto-reverse when some object (like hands) try to block at the bottom of the garage door when it rools down, but not interfering the laser beam !!

My garage door opener does reverse when laser beam detects anything when door goes down, but does not reverse when object are not in the middle of the laser sensors. Is this violating the building code ? Is this supposed to cause concerns of hosue inspection ? It is GENIE opener and do not know the model number, what can I do to make it reversable when object blocks, but not in between the laser sensor ?

You need to reduce the downward force setting. Refer to your instruction manual. There are two dials on the panel, near where the wires go into the machine. Turn them a little, then test the door. You should be able to stop it with your hands, and make it reverse.

IT�s not violating the building code, but it�s something the buyers can use against you.

You can use the rustoleum primer and spray paint for metal. I think the metal wont be rusted into two years.

Of course, it can keep not rust only as long as the surface not gouged or scratched.Once the seal is broken and the metal exposed and moisture gets to the bare steel,that is when you will have to touch up to prevent rust. But that is the good thing about the rustoleum, it inhibits rust and stops any existing rust.
